Terms of Service

Who can use RecipeOwl

You must be at least 13, or the minimum age required in your country if higher. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you and is responsible for any purchase. You can't use RecipeOwl if the law or a previous ban by us prevents it.

Your account

Give accurate details and keep access to your sign-in email or Apple or Google account secure. Anyone who can open your email can sign in as you. You're responsible for everything done through your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else has accessed it.

Subscriptions

• RecipeOwl requires a subscription, purchased through the App Store and charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
• It renews automatically at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel it in your Apple Account settings. Deleting the app or your account doesn't cancel it.
• If a free trial is offered, you're charged when it ends unless you cancel first.
• Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. Except where the law requires otherwise, we don't give refunds or credits for partial periods or unused features.
• We may change prices or what a subscription includes. Price changes apply from your next renewal, and you'll be told in advance as Apple and the law require.

Your content

You own the recipes, notes, and photos you add. To run RecipeOwl, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, copy, process, adapt (for example, resize a photo or format a recipe), and display that content, and to let our service providers do the same on our behalf. For private content, the license lasts only as long as it takes to provide the service to you. For content you publish or share, it also covers showing it to others in the app, on the web, and in search results, and it continues for copies other people have saved after you remove it or delete your account.

You promise that you have the right to add everything you add, and that it doesn't break these terms or anyone else's rights.

Photos

Upload only images related to recipes, food, or cooking, such as dishes, ingredients, recipe cards, or cookbook pages. Your profile photo is the only exception, and it must be appropriate. Don't upload photos of other people without their permission, or anything explicit, violent, hateful, or unrelated to cooking. We may remove any image that breaks this rule without notice.

Imported recipes

RecipeOwl can capture a recipe from a link, video, photo, or text you give it. You're responsible for making sure you're allowed to use that source. Imports are for your personal use, and we keep a link back to the original. Don't publish other people's writing or photos as your own. Content from other websites and videos belongs to its owners, and we aren't responsible for it.

Rules

Don't use RecipeOwl to:

• break the law or infringe anyone's rights,
• post anything abusive, hateful, sexual, misleading, or harmful, or spam,
• scrape, copy, resell, or bulk-download the service or its content, or use it to build a competing product or train AI models,
• access it by automated means, or try to break into, overload, or reverse engineer it,
• get around limits, paywalls, or security features,
• impersonate anyone or share your account.

We may review, hide, or remove any content, and restrict or close accounts, when we believe these terms are broken or to protect RecipeOwl and its users. We aren't obliged to monitor content and aren't responsible for what users post.

Copyright complaints

If you believe content on RecipeOwl infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with the link to the content, proof that you own the work, and your contact details. We'll remove infringing content and close the accounts of repeat infringers.

LLM, nutrition, and food safety

Recipes, nutrition estimates, health scores, substitutions, and images in RecipeOwl are often processed by LLMs, so they may occasionally be inaccurate or incomplete. We try our best to provide the most accurate information possible and continually improve its accuracy. They're for general information, not medical, dietary, or nutritional advice. Always check ingredients and labels yourself, especially for allergies, intolerances, or health conditions, and ask a professional when it matters.

Cooking involves risks such as heat, sharp tools, and foodborne illness. You're responsible for following safe food handling and cooking practices, and you cook at your own risk.

Our service

RecipeOwl, including its apps, design, code, and brand, belongs to us and our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable right to use it under these terms. If you send us feedback or ideas, we can use them freely without paying you.

We keep improving RecipeOwl, so we may add, change, or remove features, and the service may sometimes be unavailable. We aren't responsible for losing content you haven't kept elsewhere, so keep copies of anything important.

Ending your use

You can stop using RecipeOwl and delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or close your account, with or without notice, if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if your use creates risk or legal exposure for us or others. Sections that by their nature should last, including content licenses for shared content, disclaimers, limits of liability, and indemnity, continue after your account ends.

Disclaimers

RecipeOwl is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We don't promise that RecipeOwl will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any recipe or information in it is accurate or safe.

Limits of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, RecipeOwl and its owners, employees, and providers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or goodwill, or for any illness, allergic reaction, injury, or damage resulting from recipes, nutrition information, or cooking. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or USD 50.

Indemnity

If someone makes a claim against us because of content you added, your use of RecipeOwl, or your breach of these terms or the law, you agree to cover our resulting losses and costs, including reasonable legal fees.

Your legal rights

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived. If you live in a place that doesn't allow some of the limits above, they apply only as far as the law permits.

Disputes

If you have a problem with RecipeOwl, contact us first at [email protected] so we can try to fix it. Where the law allows, claims must be brought individually, not as part of a class action.

Apple App Store

If you got RecipeOwl from the App Store:

• These terms are between you and RecipeOwl, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its support.
• If the app fails to meet any warranty that applies, you can notify Apple, which will refund the purchase price, if any. Apple has no other warranty obligation.
• Apple isn't responsible for claims about the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection, or intellectual property claims.
• You confirm you aren't in a country under a U.S. government embargo or on a U.S. list of prohibited or restricted parties.
• You must also follow Apple's terms, including its Usage Rules. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

General

These terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about RecipeOwl. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term right away, we haven't waived it. You can't transfer these terms, but we may transfer them if RecipeOwl is sold or reorganized. We aren't liable for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using RecipeOwl after that, you accept the new terms. If you don't agree, stop using RecipeOwl and delete your account.
