Combine Sugar and Lime
In a sturdy glass or cocktail shaker, combine the superfine sugar and the quartered lime.
Muddle
Gently muddle the lime wedges with the sugar to release their juice and oils. Do not over-muddle to the point of pulverizing the peel.
2Add Cachaça and Ice
1m
Add Cachaça
Pour the cachaça into the glass with the muddled lime and sugar.
Add Ice
Fill the glass or shaker with ice cubes.
3Shake and Serve
1m
Shake
If using a shaker, secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds until well-chilled.
Strain and Serve
Open pour the contents of the shaker into a serving glass filled with fresh ice. If you muddled directly in the serving glass, simply stir well.
Tips
Use fresh, ripe limes for the best flavor.
Adjust the amount of sugar to your personal preference.
For a smoother drink, you can strain out the lime pulp after muddling, but this is not traditional.
